Prof Dr Bijay Prasad Mishra Elected President of Nepal Bar Association

Kathmandu: Senior advocate Prof Dr Bijay Prasad Mishra has been elected as the new President of the Nepal Bar Association (NBA), securing a decisive victory in the NBA Election 2081.

According to the official results announced on Wednesday, Dr Mishra garnered 5,052 votes, defeating his closest contender, senior advocate Raman Kumar Shrestha, who received 2,621 votes—a margin of 2,431 votes.

Chief Electoral Officer Senior Advocate Ram Krishna Nirala confirmed the outcome and announced the full results of the election. Dr Mishra represented the Broader Democratic, Progressive, Professional, Nationalist and Inclusive Lawyers Group, while Shrestha led the Professional Lawyers Group.

Other key positions were also filled as part of the 25-member executive committee. The newly elected vice-presidents include:

-Padam Prasad Limbu (Koshi Province)

-Ajay Shankar Jha (Madhes Province)

-Tej Bahadur Rawal (Bagmati Province)

-Bhupendra Khanal (Gandaki Province)

-Krishna Prasad Pokharel (Lumbini Province)

-Bibash Kumar Basnet (Karnali Province)

-Siddharaj Ojha (Sudurpaschim Province)

-Saraswati Shrestha (Open Women Cluster)

Senior Advocate Kedar Prasad Koirala won the position of General Secretary with 4,874 votes, defeating Yagya Mani Neupane, who received 2,367 votes. Jagat Bahadur Karki was elected as Treasurer.

Other elected members include:

-Chiranjibi Tilakyani (Dalit)

-Surya Kumar Yadav (Madhesi Muslims Outside Kathmandu Valley)

-Rinku Kumari Yadav (Madhesi Muslims Open)

-Raj Kumar Shrestha (Indigenous Nationalities Outside Kathmandu Valley)

-Mangal Sundar Shilpkar (Indigenous Nationalities Open)

-Indira Acharya (Women Outside Kathmandu Valley)

-Kiran Poudel (Outside Kathmandu Valley)

-Ranjita Karki (Women Open)

From the open category, Kiran Neupane, Sharada Gurung, Daman Bahadur Chand, Baburam Aryal, Dr Mukunda Adhikari, and Madhav Mainali were elected as executive members.

Out of 9,997 registered voters, 7,995 (an 80% turnout) participated in the election, which saw 57 candidates contesting for 25 positions.
